Ptl. Cornelius Regan, 35, dies in the line of duty.

January 13, 1898

He dies “as a result of exposure to water and cold during the rescue” of a man from Boston Harbor. Regan had raced from the North End police station to the other side of the Charlestown Bridge to pull the man from the water on Christmas Day, December 25, 1897.
